Muladhara - Base of Spine - Red
Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra symbolises our very own foundation. When unbalanced or blocked, we feel unstable, uncertain and doubt our ability to move forward. We may experience anger outbursts, nightmares, overthinking and insecurity. Physical ailments manifest in the form of back pain, sluggishness, bladder and colon issues. When the root chakra is balanced and open, we feel healthy, confident and strong enough to take the next step in your journey.
Swadhisthana - Lower Abdomen - Orange
The sacral chakra sits an inch or two lower than the bellybutton, and represents our sex organs, creativity and emotional clarity. When this chakra is blocked we can struggle with fertility, feel depressed, overwhelmed and drawn to escapism in the form of drugs and alcohol. We find it difficult to use our creative imagination and our productivity as a result may also suffer. Upon healing and opening the sacral chakra, we feel creative, expressive, free, and ready to enjoy life's pleasures.
Manipura - Solar Plexus - Yellow
When we think solar we naturally think yellow, bright, shining and confident - much like the sun. This is true for the solar plexus chakra, located in our upper abdomen and responsible for regulating confidence and self esteem. When this chakra is blocked we tend to experience adrenal fatigue, digestive issues, as well as a loss of self worth. Solar plexus blockages are a common issue for those suffering from PTSD, for one of the key components to opening the solar plexus is to heal from past trauma and resentment.
Anahata - Chest Centre - Green
The heart chakra, one of the easiest to block or break again and again in our endless quest for love. Located in the centre of the chest and represented by the colour green, the heart chakra controls our ability to love ourselves and others. Those with a blocked heart chakra (we've all been there) will experience difficulty trusting others, opening up in relationships, and setting boundaries. You may become highly self critical, drawn to isolation and always feeling like a victim. When balanced we have a greater ability to love, to express empathy and care for others.
Vishudda - Throat - Light Blue
Represented by the colour blue, the throat chakra is located as it's name suggests - on the throat. Closely linked to the heart chakra, often if one is blocked the other will suffer. The throat chakra is the control centre for personal power, self expression, and communication - meaning if it is blocked, you will experience avoidance of the truth, shyness, doubt, fear when speaking and social anxiety. Physical signs of a blocked throat chakra are evident in sore throats, thyroid issues, headaches, neck pain and lock jaw. With an open throat chakra, communication and creativity will flow as you learn to trust your intuition and inner guidance.
Third Eye Chakra
Ajna - Between Eyes - Dark Blue
The third eye chakra is one of the most fascinating to explore, for it represents our connection to the higher self, intuition and ability to manifest. When this chakra is blocked we feel indecisive, uncertain of our life path, paranoid and stagnant. Physical manifestations of blocked third eye are evident in migraines, sinus problems, vertigo and back pain. Upon clearing and opening up our third eye, the world is our oyster. We follow our intuition, act with integrity, manifest easily and live according to our highest path. After the frightening uncertainty and panic the world faced in 2020, it's safe to say we could all do with a dose of third eye magic.
Sahasrara - Top of the head - Violet
Located on the very top of the head, the crown chakra regulates the brain and central nervous system. If you feel as though you are walking around on autopilot and constantly living in your head, there is a high chance your crown chakra is blocked. Confusion, cynicism and self destructive habits are all mental effects of imbalance, with physical signs showing up as headaches, exhaustion and never ending need for sleep. When the crown chakra is balanced and prana can flow through easily, we are present and connected in everyday life. One of the greatest side effects of living in the moment, is we slow down enough to appreciate the small things in life and time does not feel like it is passing as quickly. An open crown chakra will resonate feelings of peace and calm throughout the body, and blessings will manifest freely.
